What is an Energy Performance Certificate?
An Energy Performance Certificate gives detailed information on ways in which your property could be more energy efficient and recommendations for reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Your property will be assigned an energy performance rating between A and G. Properties assigned a rating of A are the most energy efficient and a G rated property is the least energy efficient.
Is it a legal requirement?
Since October 2008 it has been a requirement that all properties to be offered on a rental basis must have an Energy Performance Certificate in order to comply with EU’s Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). Your energy performance certificate should be produced by an accredited domestic energy assessor.
How long is it valid for?
The Energy Performance certificate is valid for ten years; and is only required on self-contained properties.
